Jimmy Murphy: Knight of the Speedway

Back to Home Page

A comic book story of the life and racing career of Jimmy Murphy. The story appeared in the late 1940s and was in a comic book directed to young Catholic boys. Jimmy’s racing is highlighted, but it also talks about him being an alter boy, getting the last rites in Syracuse and the formation of a Knights of Columbus chapter in Monterey Park in Los Angeles named after him. It is still functioning as the Jimmy Murphy chapter of the Knights of Columbus. It is over the top as a period piece and I am not aware that any other driver was featured in a comic book.
